The chat is one of the most powerful features in Filetopia. As it is where you will interact with fellow Filetopia users, we have taken particular care to make it enjoyable to use, while also making sure it is both easy to use and feature-rich.


In the latest version of Filetopia, the GUI has been optimized for the best user experience possible.   You can change the graphic aspect of any room using your own set of colors and fonts or choosing between over 25 different presets.


Chat


To start chatting, just enter something into the input line at the bottom of the screen and press ENTER key.   You can make use of emoticons,  chat sounds or chat commands.


Right clicking over the chat area will show a menu with the following options:

  • Freeze Chat: Chat scrolling will stop temporarily, so you can read back what has been written even if people are typing into the room.  If not removed, this option will clear automatically after 5 minutes.
  • Clear:   It will clear the contents of the chat area.
  • Log:  It will record everything that is being typed and all activity in the chat room.
  • Beep: It will play a small sound every time someone types in the room.
  • Override chat theme: This option will replace the existing chat style (colors, fonts, backgrounds) for your preferred chat style as set in options or favorites.
  • Sounds: It will allow you to play sounds in the chat.
  • Copy: It will copy to the clipboard the selected area of the chat.


The Actions menu at the top right of the screen has the following options:

  • Add/Edit room to favorites:  It will allow you to set a room in favorites.
  • Invite to Room: It will invite the selected user to any room you are in.
  • Custom Messages: that you can use in the chat.
  • Float window: so you can float this room anywhere in your desktop.
  • Show room in Contacts:  It will make this room the preferred room to show to your contacts.
  • Copy Room Link:  it will create a link to this room in your clipboard that you can paste in any chat room, wall or message.
  • Save Log:  if the room is not already being recorded, it will dump the contents of the room's buffer inside the log file.
  • View Log: It will allow you to open and review the latest contents of your Log file.
  • Font size slider:  This option will allow you to increase or decrease the size of the text in the room to improve readability.  This option will be used from now on in the rooms you open and in this help file.


If you select a user in the list and press the right mouse button,  you will get a context menu:

  • Add/Edit Contact: It will allow you to add the user as contact or edit it if they're already there.
  • Operator: Only visible if you are an admin in the room it will let you use the moderation tools.
  • Get List of Files:  It will request their file's list. (double clicking a user will also perform this function).
  • Private chat: It will open a private chat with the user.
  • Whisper / Whisper Lock:  so you can whisper to other users.
  • Send File(s): It will allow you to send one or more files to the user.
  • Send Message: It will send an instant message to the user.
  • Edit Notes: It will open the user's properties window, so you can enter any notes about this user.
  • Ignore User: It will totally ignore this user's interactions everywhere in the program.
  • Ban User: It will forbid this user to connect to your file server.
  • Sound Alert: It will play a sound on the remote user, so they can be alerted.
  • Ping: It will send a control message to the user, and the user will respond to it immediately, allowing you to measure the lag (time it takes to respond) and informing you about the software version they're using. 
  • Information: It will display the user's profile if available.
